The MISSION – MIcrofluidicSenSors for rapId detectiOn of cyaNotoxins project took part in the EuropeanResearchers’ Night (NEI) at Centro Ciência Viva de Aveiro, an initiative thatbrings science closer to society by encouraging interaction between researchersand the public, especially younger generations.
Representing the University ofAveiro team, Diana Matos, Teresa Gomes and Alisa Rudnitskaya engagedvisitors in an interactive game illustrating the concept of rapid toxindetection. Children used UV torches to reveal invisible ink markings on theinside of the shellfish shells, identifying those marked as “contaminated”.
This playful activity helpedexplain how the MISSION project aims to develop sensors for the rapid andsimple detection of cyanotoxins, highlighting the importance of research in protecting human health and waterresources.
